Ortovox is "the voice of the mountains". The success story of Ortovox began in 1980 with the introduction of the revolutionary avalanche beacon "Ortovox F2".

Since then, Ortovox has stood for the highest possible protection in alpine activities. As pioneers in the field of avalanche safety, the company from the south of Munich has played a key role in the development of emergency equipment for the mountains.

At the same time, the Ortovox wool experts have developed a wear-comfort system from the first to the third layer, which offers the highest functionality, protection and comfort on the mountain through an intelligent combination of the natural material with other innovative fibers.

Ortovox was one of the first outdoor manufacturers to rely entirely on sheep wool as an innovative and natural raw material for outdoor clothing. Already in 1988 the company developed functional clothing made of walk wool. These outdoor jackets, sweaters, hats and gloves were made of 100% milled sheep's wool and had all the advantages of this natural material: they were warm, odour-neutralising and moisture-regulating. The company has been using merino wool since 1995. This wool has a particularly fine fibre diameter - which makes the wool extremely soft. At the same time it is very durable - ideal for outdoor sports. Ortovox obtains its merino wool exclusively from Tasmania, where the shepherds have been working for generations to consistently improve the wool quality of the sheep.
